Hello. How are you today? Let's talk ... Do any of you have the problem that I have? Your name being mis-pronounced? And others seem to think it is ok to mi-pronounce your name. Some think why is it such a big deal. My question to them is "Would you want someone to not call you by your right name?" The name our parents or someone near and dear took the time to specificially assign your name to you.
I used to overlook it because I was tired of correcting people, but now ... let's just say it is starting to get under my skin. Even when people play with the pronunciation, let it go already. It was said and it was done, no need to keep dragging it out.
Lately, my name is being mis-pronounced alot. Which is crazy to me, because you say it just like you see it,
TAN-YA. Just like the color Tan and add a ya-Tanya. It is not that deep.
This morning I find myself once again correcting my name. This time through email with the spelling of it. Now it is funny because I have been dealing with this person for years through email. They already do not pronounce my name right (no matter how many times I have corrected them) and now seeing the mispelling of my name hit a nerve. I try my best to make sure I am saying and spelling someone's name right because I do not want to offend anyone. I may even ask the person, "How do you pronounce your name?" For me and in my head it is a common courtesy. What are your thoughts or experiences?
I would like to leave you with this, our names have meanings and I would like to share a few of my meanings with you...
1. “honorable”
2. It was taught (Hebrew)
3. Hebrew ('Netanyahu', God has given)
4. Ancient Greek (Establisher, Decider)
5. Girls named Tanya are often described as being beautiful, intelligent, and independent
6. Known for their sense of humor and their ability to make friends easily
All I am asking is "put some respect on my name!" #period
P.S. I want to hear from you, so let's conversate.
